A day after launching a daily Facebook newscast called “Facecast,” ABC News president James Goldston announced a new initiative: GoStream. (If you have the ABC News App, then you’ve already seen the multiple “alerts” about GoStream.)
The new initiative is being called the next step of ABC News live video. ABC News staffers will be able to upload live streaming coverage of news in real time.

And Goldston is hiring for what he thinks “will be one of the best jobs in modern journalism—a digital journalist dedicated to this endeavor, whose job will be to manage, strategize and produce this new content, and respond to breaking and ongoing news domestically and internationally.” Goldston’s full note–

‘Team –

I am excited to announce the launch of ABC News GoStream.

GoStream is the next step in the expansion of our live online video. It is a new initiative across all of ABC News that will take our audience around the world, in real time, to see and experience global events and breaking stories as they unfold.

From the streets of Ferguson to the Pope’s daily mass, everyone at ABC News now has the ability, using the app LiveU on their mobile devices, to live stream what’s happening on the ground across our digital, broadcast, and Apple TV platforms at anytime from anywhere. GoStream will help us further tap into our vast worldwide resources and talent—ultimately, providing our viewers with the most immediate, immersive and inside-access experience.

GoStream will be curated and live streamed on the newly redesigned ABCNews.com/live as well as ABC News’ mobile apps and on Apple TV.

We will be hiring what I think will be one of the best jobs in modern journalism—a digital journalist dedicated to this endeavor, whose job will be to manage, strategize and produce this new content, and respond to breaking and ongoing news domestically and internationally.

All of this is part of our One ABC News plan. ABCNews.com has led the way in our push to build a modern, unified news organization and deliver the most engaging experiences to all screens and all consumers at all times.

From our nearly 10 million live streams during 2012 Presidential election, our groundbreaking launch on Apple TV this summer, and, more recently, the 7 hour live digital coverage of the midterm elections, digital is helping transform how we think about journalism and how we tell the most important stories. Now with the launch of GoStream, we are even more committed to putting live video front and center on all our digital platforms.

I’m excited to see the creative ways in which all our platforms will put GoStream into practice. It gives us a powerful new way to incorporate mobile journalism into the news gathering process and provides you all with the opportunity to experiment with different forms of storytelling. I can’t wait to see where you’ll take us next!’
